IELTS is an English proficiency test accepted for educational institutions in English-speaking countries and for immigration applications. IELTS is offered in two different modes: Academic and General Training.
IELTS Academic is a format used when students apply for university or postgraduate programs. IELTS General Training is often used for immigration applications and to measure language skills for work or everyday life.
Each skill is scored out of 9 and these scores are added together to create an overall IELTS score. The overall IELTS score is given on a scale from 9 to 1. Both exams are internationally recognized and useful tools for measuring English language skills. Which exam you choose will depend on your goals and the requirements of the program or institution you are applying to.
TOEFL is a widely accepted English proficiency test for international students applying to university or graduate programs, especially in the US and Canada. It is offered in two different formats, the TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) and the TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test). The TOEFL iBT is the more widely used format.
Each skill is scored out of 30, and the total TOEFL score can be up to 120. Each university or program determines the TOEFL score required for admission.
